Music Director / Choreographer

Oceanside Theatre Company (OTC) is seeking a part-time music director / choreographer to assist the Youth Outreach Director in planning, preparing, and implementing a Musical Theatre Skills program in collaboration with the Oceanside Unified School District and Jefferson Middle School.

Program runs January 28 – April 8, 2019
Salary: $1800 for 88 hours

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with an 8-week after-school program held Tuesdays and Thursdays at Jefferson Middle School (total of 5 hours per week).
  • prepare students for singing, acting, dancing, and/or serving as tech crew in a production of High School Musical. The Youth Outreach Program concludes with one week of tech and four musical theatre performances for family, friends, and the public, onstage at the Brooks Theatre in downtown Oceanside.
  • work closely with the Outreach Director to coordinate lesson plans, after-school activities, basic theatre skills practice, and rehearsals.
  • work closely with Jefferson MS administration for scheduling, transportation, PR, and other components of the program.
  • establish a positive working relationship with the OTC Board of Directors and staff by helping to keep them informed during the course of the program.
  • connect with students’ families to gain their support and involvement. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Training, education, and/or experience working with Middle School students.
  • Training, education, and/or theatre experience in musical theatre, especially musical direction and choreography.
  • Creativity, motivation, and ability to build successful relationships with students, school administration/staff, OTC staff and board members, and parents.
  • Basic administrative skills, with good written and oral communication skills.

Facilities Rental Coordinator

Oceanside Theatre Company (OTC) is seeking an independent contractor to serve as Facilities Rental Coordinator.  The Coordinator manages and supports facility rentals for The Brooks Theatre and Studio 219. He or she acts as a liaison and the primary point of contact between theater management and renters to ensure excellent customer service, rental support, and execution of events.

The independent contractor will report to the OTC Board of Directors, and have the following responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide administrative and managerial support for Oceanside Theatre Company, including but not limited to: contract preparation, written and verbal communication with clients, handling deposits and receivables, staffing rental events, and occasionally supervising rental events.
  • Ensure each rental inquiry receives a personal response within one business day of the initial inquiry.
  • Actively contact prospective clients to develop relationships and sales opportunities.
  • Coordinate and schedule Facilities Rentals with OTC company calendar.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of Google-based office programs (Docs, Drive, Sheets, Calendar)


EXPECTATIONS:

  • General knowledge of hospitality and event sales, coordination, and execution.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple clients, external vendors, technical staff, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with all financial and other proprietary information.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience coordinating multiple events and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Experience processing formal documents.
  • Experience communicating with clients and prospective clients via phone, e-mail, and in person.
  • Experience coordinating large events.


WORK SCHEDULE:

This position requires a flexible schedule commensurate with the business cycles of a mid-sized performing arts venue. Hours required are an average of 2-3 per week, but could be significantly greater, depending on demand.
