Oceanside Theatre Company is seeking a Manager of Youth and Outreach to join our small but mighty team.

Job Summary:

Our Manager of Education and Outreach is equal parts strategic visionary and detail-oriented project manager. This is the perfect opportunity for a team-oriented collaborator, active and compassionate listener, bridge builder and a champion for theatre education. The Manager is motivated by OTC’s commitment to develop culturally rich and dynamic programs on our stages, in our classes and within our community.

The successful candidate will be detail oriented with excellent communications skills, and experience with program management principles, techniques, and tools.

    • You are a fiscally responsible leader who can work within an approved budget while keeping an eye on opportunities to reduce expenses or enhance revenue. 
    • Ability to work with diverse personalities and workgroups including outside educational institutions and youth of all ages.

Hired as a Part Time employee at $25 hr.  Hours will vary from 2 – 6 hours per week, with additional pre-approved hours during Summer Theatre Camp, Youth Outreach Program, and other youth-centered endeavors, for an average of 300 hours per year. 

Much of the Program Manager’s work can be done remotely and on his/her/their own schedule; however, we will expect this person to spend a portion of their hours in person supervising and/or checking in with staff during classes, camps and productions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth projects and programming for ages 8 – 18
  • Knowledge of and minimum of 3 years’ experience working in theater or comparable industry, including serving as producer for plays, musicals or events
  • Ability to pursue the mission and goals of the organization while focusing on the objectives and details of youth education and enrichment
  • Ability to follow direction of the Board of Directors and ensure excellent communication with Board, OTC staff, and the community
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing budgets, tracking expenses and revenue, and adhering to approved budgets 
  • Familiarity with and ability to prepare news releases, oversee creation of promotional materials, and ensure distribution of promotional materials
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to prepare detailed reports, budgets, guidelines, and Letters of Agreement
  • Provide enthusiasm, respect, and clear direction as a supervisor
Areas of Responsibility:
Summer Youth Theater Camp  –  4 weeks
  • Prepare budget proposal for Board of Directors and oversee approved budget
  • Oversee recruitment/ hiring of Camp Directors and contract staff
  • Serve as Producer for Camp Youth Musical 
  • Work with OTC Artistic Director, Managing Director, Facilities Manager, Marketing Manager, Board Members, and volunteers to plan, prepare, sign off/ oversee:
    • supervision of Camp Directors. Includes meetings for direction and feedback 
    • publicity and program materials. Includes working with Graphic Designer and preparing press releases for press, media, and social media outlets
    • recruitment of youth
    • schedule OTC calendar for use of Brooks lobby, Main Stage, and Studio 
    • prepare program budget and oversee revenues and expenditures
    • prepare reports for OTC Managing Director and Board meetings
    • resolution of challenges and problems
    • post-program evaluation and recommendations for following year
  • Other duties as deemed necessary
Youth Outreach Program  –  12 weeks
  • prepare budget proposal for Managing Director and Board of Directors and oversee approved budget
  • oversee recruitment/ hiring of Youth Outreach Directors and part-time staff
  • supervise Outreach Directors. Includes meetings for direction and feedback
  • serve as Producer for Youth Musical at end of Outreach Program
  • oversee and enhance partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO)
    • Zoom meetings as needed 
    • collaborate on Letter of Agreement and program budget 
    • coordinate with BGCO on youth recruitment and publicity
    • coordinate use of comp tickets and discounts
  • Work with OTC Artistic Director, Managing Director, Facilities Manager, Marketing Manager, Board Members, and volunteers to plan, prepare, sign off/ oversee:
    • publicity and program materials, Includes working with Graphic Designer and preparing press releases for print, media, and social media outlets
    • recruitment of BGCO youth members and OUSD Youth
    • scheduling of OTC calendar for use of Brooks Theater lobby, stage, and studio
    • revenues and expenditures
    • interim reports and final report for OTC Managing Director and Board meetings
    • resolution of challenges and problems
    • evaluation and feedback after Program ends via meeting with Outreach staff and subsequent meeting with Outreach staff and Hillary Wheeler from BGCO
    • theater tours for BGCO members and OUSD students
    • other duties as deemed necessary
Youth-centered projects/ programs:
  • Explore and promote collaborations, partnerships, or coordination of youth-centered OTC youth programs with community organizations, the Oceanside Unified School District, local businesses, and other non-profits
  • Meet, plan, prepare, and oversee implementation of such projects/ programs
