The Artist Open House on Friday, April 4, celebrates the opening of ABSTRACTION – the Art of the Abstract, an exhibition designed to dazzle the eye and spark the imagination. Is that painting upside down—or are you? Watch a guest artist at work, chat with the artists, and connect with fellow visitors. This free event welcomes everyone—families, friends, tourists, and community members alike. Drop in or stay awhile to relax and enjoy the celebration of art!

Diane O’Connell is a Carlsbad-based artist whose paintings have been showcased in galleries across California and internationally, earning her numerous accolades along the way. She works in multiple media, including oil painting, watercolor, and photography. Diane strives to share the beauty and wonder she appreciates in nature by bringing them to life on canvas.
Judy Judy Judy (She/Her)
Cattle Call
Judy is a classically trained painter, utilizing oil and acrylic mediums. She studied with master painters in the United States and Europe. Judy’s work transforms captivating scenes into vibrant compositions, blending classical and contemporary techniques with a lively interpretation of everyday life. Her work has been in many juried shows in the United States and exhibits in Paris, France.
Kimberly DeCew (She/Her)
Falling to Pieces
Kim DeCew is a Southern California native whose interest in photography started in childhood. It wasn’t until after raising her own children that she committed time to pursuing her passion for the art form. She enjoys challenging herself shooting various types of subjects, but landscape photography is one of her favorites.

Eva Shaw, Ph.D. (She/Her)
Sunrise, Midday, Sunset
Eva Shaw, Ph.D., is self-taught and came into the art world after surviving breast cancer. She’s happiest when encouraging the love of art to those who may not traditionally think that art is for them. “If my art makes someone smile or laugh, I’m honored. That’s my goal.” A mystery writer, she thrives, creates, writes and paints in Carlsbad.

Cherrie Anderson (She/Her)
Memory Cafe Mix and Bioluminescence
Cherrie Anderson is a photographic artist who began to study photography seriously when she retired to San Diego from Washington DC. Her photographic process encourages her to see the world from unconventional viewpoints. A busy family caregiver, Cherrie shoots whatever catches her eye, wherever she is. She believes that color is a nutrient, and she finds healing in transforming her images with brilliant color.

Cheryl Price (She/Her)
Cellular Transformation
Cheryl Price spent 33 years in banking and retired in 2009. It was after attending photography classes that a passion for this discipline took hold. Seeing life through the lens has stimulated her love of the moment and spiritual connections. She presents her work to her audience as an homage to life on this plane with a view to the universal.

Laurie Batter (She/Her)
She Loves Her White Dress
Laurie Batter was always creating art as a child and teenager. She had good fortune to be born into a family who encouraged her creativity, and a grade school program that exposed her to the Masters and a college degree in Art History. After a 40-year hiatus from art while she ran her boutique PR & Marketing firm, and the surprise blessing of the Pandemic, she has renewed her connection to art, creating through multiple mediums and subjects. Her home studio is chock full of colorful paints, and every art supply you could dream about. She actively explores her creativity through classes at Mira Costa College, plus several renowned workshops including Nicholas Wilton’s Art2Life Creative Visioning Program (CVP), Art2Life Spark, and Jenny Nelson. Laurie is a member of AGNC (Artist Group of North County) and the Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance. Her work is collected by art lovers around the U.S. and the UK.

Doriana Sinnett (She/Her)
Unexpected Jazz
Creativity has always been her companion, with art and music capturing her imagination. Her journey into digital art began with doodles and evolved through courses like Sebastián Michael’s Photoshop Artistry. This course opened up endless possibilities, fueling her passion and prompting a shift from a business-focused life to one centered on digital creation. Her work now embodies joy, positivity, and spiritual harmony.
