Discover the beauty of the natural world at By Land & By Sea, an Artist Open House on January 10, from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at the Brooks Theater Gallery. This stunning exhibit showcases landscapes and seascapes that have inspired, delighted, and impressed artists from all corners of the globe. Meet the creators and gain insight into how these breathtaking natural sights have shaped their artistry. Enjoy light refreshments, ambient music, watch a guest artist create a piece live, and mingle with artists, families, locals, and art lovers. All are welcome.

Diane O’Connell’s art explores a variety of media, including oil painting, watercolor, collage, mixed media and photography, often referencing the beauty of nature and her appreciation of the awesome places where she lives and travels. She considers it a blessing to communicate her passion of art onto canvas to share with others the beauty that exists in our lives.

B.J. Lane—a visionary artist whose work reflects a lifetime of passion, resilience, and artistic mastery. With a career spanning decades, B.J. Lane has created a diverse portfolio that inspires collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Her creations explore beauty in the everyday, blending innovation and emotion to craft pieces that resonate deeply with the heart and soul.
Hooshang Yashar (He/Him)
Turquoise
Hooshang’s interest in art began at a young age. At 14, he studied with a master painter, learning drawing and values in black and white before being introduced to oil paints. He earned a degree in Industrial Design from Pasadena City College and San Jose State University, then worked with renowned graphic designer Saul Bass. While pursuing a career in design and raising a family, he continued painting. His work has been exhibited in California galleries and is inspired by California’s landscapes.
Dana McCullough (She/Her)
French Chateau
Dana spent 25 years in the classroom teaching Advanced Placement English and English language arts. Practicing her own art in her free time throughout, Dana is the owner and teacher of Lieu de Sculpture, a sculpture school in the Carlsbad Village. Oil painting is her newest medium.
Rhya Cawley (She/Her)
Coastal Tree
Rhya began her career in New York City as a graphic artist. She relocated to San Diego and taught high school art until her retirement. Her paintings have been included in gallery exhibitions at the San Diego Museum of Art, the Oceanside Museum of Art and the Brooks Theater Gallery.
Beatriz Nicki De Necochea (She/Her)
Con La Vida No Se Juega/Life is Not a Game
Beatriz (Nicki) resides in Southern California. She has embraced her art, writing of essays, poems, and other art forms as integral to her creative self-expression. Art themes often represent her culture and pride in the diversity of life experience as a Chicana painter in oils, acrylics, and mixed media. Her writing and paintings explore personal themes and experiences as another vehicle for using art expression for growth, human awareness, and self-discovery.
