Youāre invited to tickle your funny bone at the Brooks Theater Gallery Artist Open House on Friday, August 2. Doors open at 5:30 pm and youāre welcome to just drop in or stay a while. The gallery is filled with HUMOR ā Art guaranteed to make you laugh out loud! Enjoy light refreshments, watch a guest artist demonstrating their work, and chat with exhibiting artists, families, tourists, Art Walk participants, and art lovers.

Laurie Batter began creating art as a small child and after many years, and the surprise blessing of the Pandemic, she has rejoiced in creating art every day. Experimenting and combining mediums not normally used together excites her creativity. Her work has been exhibited in North County San Diego and collected by art lovers around the United States and in England.

Galina Marcus is a self-taught artist, a mental wellness advocate, and an environmental enthusiast. She was born in Moscow in the mid-80s where she lived and worked until moving to San Diego, CA in 2015. Although she painted and drew since early childhood, she only began pursuing a career as a professional artist in 2018 when she decided to join San Dieguito Art Guild in North County San Diego. She is constantly evolving and experimenting in new techniques, which pushes her out of her comfort zone and makes her grow as an artist. Eva Shaw, Ph.D., is self-taught and came to painting, in her sixties, after surviving breast cancer. Sheās happiest when encouraging the love of art to those who may not traditionally think that art is for them. āIf my art makes someone smile or laugh, Iām honored. Thatās my goal.ā Dr. Shaw is a much-published author and her most recent books are the Beatrix Patterson mystery series: The Seer, The Finder and The Pursuer. She is a university professor, ghostwriter, avid gardener, passionate volunteer with her church, the community, the American Cancer Society, Days for Girls International, Welsh Terrier Rescue and other causes. Sheās a devoted reader; and dog mom to Welsh Terrier, Coco Rose, who reluctantly and impatiently waits for total attentiveness and attention and long walks. Little known facts? Eva is addicted to travel having visited more than 35 countries and pays the banjolele, which is a hybrid of the ukulele and the banjo, with a robust sound. āIt looks like what Kermit the Frog played in the swamp.ā She lives, thrives and paints in Carlsbad.

Amore has been making art and performing in theater since she was a child. She enjoys multiple forms of creative expression, including painting, sewing, writing, acting, and improv. She has a passion for bold, expressive work and wild colors. Some of her favorite artists are Jean Michele Basquiat, Frida Kahlo, Henry Matisse, and Thomas McKnight.
