Shredding is a short surf film program that challenges outdated stereotypes about who belongs in surf culture. Instead of centering caricatures like Spicoli or Bodhi, these films highlight surfers from Morocco to Palestine to the California coast—people whose presence on the water redefines what it means to “shred.”
Through stories of access, identity, and resilience, Shredding celebrates a new wave of surfers expanding the sport’s image and welcoming others to do the same. What remains after dismantling the old archetype is something deeper: the shared joy, freedom, and connection that surfing brings to all who answer the ocean’s call.
With films by Rabbi Chel Mandell, Lo Frentz, Serra Soyupak, Peter Williams, Dörthe Eickelberg, Nesrine Majzoub, Zachary Zezima, Yusuf Demirörs, and Arne JinAn Wong. Filmmakers will be in attendance!
