Oceanside Theatre Company and Six String Society Announce 2023 Oceanside Music Series: Live! at the Brooks
Ken Rexrode’s Six String Society to partner with Oceanside Theatre Company on a nine-show series of eclectic music concerts

(Oceanside, CA) December 6, 2022 – Oceanside Theatre Company (OTC) and Six String Society will collaborate on a new music series, “Live! at the Brooks,” featuring an eclectic series of nine concerts throughout 2023 at the historic Brooks Theater in downtown Oceanside. With local and national acts ranging from blues to jazz, from soul to gospel, and rock to hip-hop, this enthralling musical collaboration promises to surprise and delight a variety of audiences.

“Over the past several years, we have put on some fantastic Six String Society shows in this historic theater in downtown Oceanside,” said producer Kenneth Rexrode. “It’s a great venue with a large theater-style stage, yet it remains very intimate as well. We are 100% committed to bringing in some exciting local, national, and even international acts to the OTC music series which will commence in mid-January.”

Oceanside Theatre Company has worked with Kenneth Rexrode and Six String Society since 2016, and Interim Managing Director Alex Goodman is excited to expand and build upon the long-standing relationship.

“It’s a great opportunity for the Brooks to consistently host more eclectic offerings for the community and continue to fill the theater with a wide range of music-loving patrons. Ken has done a tremendous job establishing his brand with music makers and music lovers throughout the region, and we are thrilled to play host to all of the incredible artists that he has planned for our 2023 Season.”

About Gunhild Carling

One of the world’s truly great jazz performers, Swedish superstar, Gunhild Carling became infatuated with music and instruments at a young age. Her home life was filled with a variety of artistic endeavors including acting, circus tricks, dance, music, Vaudeville, and novelty. In addition to her beautiful singing voice, she excels at playing more than 10 instruments.

Having developed an interest in jazz as a child, she has come full circle with her own children now performing with her in what has become a family band. This incredibly dynamic performer has toured with the Post Modern Jukebox and played for audiences around the world, including the King of Sweden.

About The 27 Club

The Six String Society’s 27 Club illuminates the lives and music of an infamous group of musicians, in which all the members share at least one thing in common – they all died tragically at the age of 27. Set in a mythical Greenwich Village apartment circa 1969, the candles burn late into the evening as the stars of this dubious club begin to arrive in the “Living Room.” One by one, they each perform their songs culminating in one triumphant group number together at the end. The All Star cast includes Whitney Shay (as Amy Winehouse), Lauren Leigh Martin (as Janis Joplin), Anthony Cullins (as Jimi Hendrix), Austin David (as Kurt Cobain), Robin Henkel (performing the music of Robert Johnson), Jody Bagley, Laura Chavez and others. After making its debut at the Belly Up on July 10, 2016, the Six String Society went on to present the 27 Club in Nevada casinos and at various festivals.

About Vanessa Collier

As a master musician and multi-instrumentalist, Vanessa Collier, weaves funk, soul, rock, and blues into every powerful performance. With soulful vocals, searing saxophone, and witty songwriting, Collier is blazing a trail, racking up an impressive arsenal of honors, and has already singled herself out as an artist of distinction.

It’s not simply the accolades she has accumulated so far, although they’ve been many – two Blues Music Awards for “Horn Player of the Year,” and a third BMA for “Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year,” eight Blues Music Award Nominations (BMAs), a Blues Blast Award nomination, the Jammingest Pro Award bestowed by the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, First Place for lyrics in the International Songwriting Competition, Best of 2014 Blues Breaker on Dan Aykroyd’s BluesMobile – it’s the fact that she has accumulated all these honors even while her career is still in its infancy. A 2013 graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, she’s toured nationally and internationally, released four critically acclaimed albums (2014’s Heart, Soul & Saxophone, 2017’s Meeting My Shadow, 2018’s Honey Up, and 2020’s Heart on the Line.)
