Linguist Richard Lederer Illuminates Language Essentials in Presentation and Book Signing Benefiting Oceanside Theatre Company

Private sessions on “Poker 101” and “Lederer on Language” to be auctioned off at fundraiser Saturday, August 27 at Brooks Theater

(Oceanside, CA) – San Diego Union-Tribune language columnist and author of more than 60 books, Richard Lederer will give a lecture and sign books at the historic Brooks Theater in downtown Oceanside on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available online at OceansideTheatre.org or by calling the box office at 760-433-8900. All proceeds will benefit the Oceanside Theatre Company.

In his comedic take on the ever-evolving English language, Lederer, known as Dr. Grammar Guy, illuminates essential grammar and usage for avoiding potentially awkward miscommunications. Laugh and learn about terminal prepositions, split infinitives, the utility of the serial comma, and “they” as a third-person singular pronoun. If you’ve ever had to ask if someone was talking about their non-binary child or multiple children – you will relate!

Lederer will be signing his books at the performance, including his most recent release, The Complete Pleasury of Word & Phrase Origins. “Richard Lederer has done it again–another delightful, witty, and hugely absorbing celebration of the English language,” said Bill Bryson, author of The Mother Tongue.

During his performance, Lederer will be auctioning off lectures “Lederer on Language” and “Poker 101” for the benefit of Oceanside Theatre Company. For “Lederer on Language,” he will present a fun language learning program of your choice at your home, book club, child’s school, house of worship, local library, service club, or business. In “Poker 101” Lederer will discuss the great American game of Texas Hold’em and instruct participants in its fundamentals. Father of well-known professional poker players Howard “The Professor” Lederer and Annie Duke, “The Duchess of Poker,” who were the first brother-sister combination to make it to the same WSOP final table, his teaching legacy speaks for itself. Beginning and intermediate players are warmly welcomed.

Participants can send their questions about grammar and punctuation to Richard Lederer at richardhlederer@gmail.com before or during the performance.
